Liverpool don’t seem to be in a position to make major signings in the summer 2021 transfer window, which could be a problem given Manchester City’s huge rebound in 2020-2021. If the Reds want to be able to make impact signings, then they will need to make a handful of sales in order to clear space and generate some funds.

Kopites may be frustrated with the lack of movement on the transfer window at positions other than center back, though the Ibrahima Konate signing should be a boon to the back line.

Let’s take a look at five players Liverpool could sell this summer in order to raise funds. These players are all on the fringes of the squad.

AM Xherdan Shaqiri

Although Xherdan Shaqiri’s had a nice career and filled a niche role as a backup for Jurgen Klopp, the Swiss attacker needs to go. Shaqiri offered Liverpool next to nothing this season, and he is the definition of a fringe player. He offers no real upside to the table as a 29-year-old who has admittedly underperformed from expectations since emerging at Bayern Munich.

The long-time Premier League role player could take a step back down from Liverpool, and the Reds would love to find him a suitor who could take on his wages and give him more playing time. His future could lie elsewhere in the Premier League.

Selling Shaqiri in this economy won’t necessarily be easy, but he has enough talent to fancy some club out there.
