I think it’s safe to say that Loris Karius is the most obvious player for Liverpool to sell this summer. Whereas Marko Grujic has some future potential and Xherdan Shaqiri has some hope of a niche role, Karius offers no benefit to Liverpool. And the clubs he’s been loaned to don’t seem to want to have anything to do with him either.

Karius’ story is a sad one. His errors at Liverpool have been the main topic of discussion, and it hurts to see how they affected his career. He was once one of the best goalkeepers in Germany at Mainz, and we can’t forget that. However, from the Reds’ perspective, they knew they had to get better in goal in order to compete at the highest level. That’s exactly what Alisson has brought them.

After spending the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons on loan at Besiktas with 55 total appearances, Karius has made just four appearances for Union Berling this year on loan. The breakout Bundesliga side is headed for European football for the first time ever, qualifying for the Conference League. And Karius hasn’t been a real part of that.

Finding a team interested in buying Karius won’t be easy, but if the keeper doesn’t have too high expectations, they should be able to find an interested party in Germany. His reputation there remains high after all that he did for Mainz, Jurgen Klopp’s former club.
