Liverpool could be in the market for another midfielder this summer. Chances are, Fenway Sports Group will spare their money and Jurgen Klopp won’t push them to make a move. But there are many Kopites who feel that the Reds should pursue a midfielder with Georginio Wijnaldum gone to Barcelona, as those are some big shoes to fill.
Curtis Jones has the upside to be a part of the solution, but Liverpool should not stop with him. If they can afford one of these five midfielders this summer, then they should strongly consider a transfer to bolster the middle of the park, even after signing Thiago Alcantara last summer.
Leicester City CM Youri Tielemans
The first name on the list should be Youri Tielemans, who will undoubtedly increase his reputation at the Euros for a strong Belgium side. Just as he is often an X-Factor for Leicester City, who won their first FA Cup this season, he will be vital to his national team’s success this summer.
Tielemans is one of the classiest midfielders you’ll find in the Premier League, and he’s only 24 years old. The man can score goals, including from range, and create. He is an adept defender, too, with 2.3 tackles and 1.2 interceptions per game, according to WhoScored.com.
A young, well-rounded midfielder like Tielemans, who is proven in the Premier League and has the upside as he enters his prime, would be a dream signing for Liverpool. He’ll probably be out of the Reds’ price range, but his quality is too great to ignore.
