Ajax CM Ryan Gravenberch

Expect to hear more about Ryan Gravenberch as the summer transfer window unfolds. Midfield-needy teams like Juventus have already been linked to Ajax’s latest young standout in the middle of the park, and he might be the young Dutch player to watch the closest in the summer 2021 transfer window.

Gravenberch’s technical quality is immense, and he is intelligent beyond his years. His composure is uncanny, and he would not look out of place on a team like Liverpool, though Jurgen Klopp would probably ease him in at first.

19 years old, Gravenberch scored three goals with five assists in the Dutch Eredivisie with an additional goal in the Champions League and assist during Ajax’s Europa League run. Gravenberch averaged 2.5 tackles per game and 1.8 interceptions per game in the Champions League, 2.2 of both each in the Europa League, and a combined 2.9 tackles and interceptions in domestic competition. So he can bring ball-winning and defensive qualities to the table, which would be important to Klopp and could help replace some of what Wijnaldum offered the Reds.

Offensively, Gravenberch averaged 1.2 key passes per game and 1.6 dribbles completed per game. There’s still room for him to grow, but that’s obvious as he’s 19. I think it’d be wise for Liverpool to get in on Gravenberch early. They may already see that Jones is the player they want to develop, but I think Gravenberch has more upside and even more to give in 2021-2022.
