It is never too early for Liverpool to think about the future.
Liverpool FC has enjoyed a lot of successful football recently; however, the Reds need to think about the future sooner rather than later. As we all know, players worldwide are always thinking about the next contract in the back of their minds. Who can blame them, considering how exorbitant transfer window prices are becoming. Although the Reds enjoy a moderate amount of spending money, they did not rank in the top ten for all teams in Europe regarding spending in the most recent decade. That said, Liverpool will not be in a heavyweight fight for every big name for large purchases. Instead, they will spend wisely during the transfer windows while retaining their players.
The transfer window is essential, but developing and retaining talent is equally important for Liverpool.
While infinitely wealthy clubs such as Paris-Saint Germain and Manchester City seem to have an infinite amount of money for the transfer window, they also (at times) seemingly stray away from developing their players. That is not to say every player they buy is someone else’s product. It is only to say that players from smaller clubs and backgrounds get more chances to shine for a team like Liverpool. The depth is still quality and competitive, just not as upper-echelon with higher expectations than the clubs listed previously. With that being said, here are three players that should be given extensions over the next three seasons, given that their contracts are expiring in the said year or a year later.
