Roberto Firmino’s potential return to action would boost today for Liverpool.

Today, Liverpool FC takes on Newcastle United in an English Premier League clash, and one of their best players will potentially return to action. Center-forward Roberto Firmino has been spotted in training sessions this week, and he is trending towards returning along with one of his fellow teammates.

Today, Firmino and Curtis Jones could potentially be utilized as substitutes in a minimal capacity. On the other hand, the Reds will be without Nathaniel Phillips and, more than likely, Divock Origi. Regardless, Jürgen Klopp’s side should handle the Magpies with their core squad with relative ease.

Liverpool and Newcastle are trending in two very different directions.

This past Sunday, Newcastle is coming off a dreadful 4-0 loss against Leicester City. The latest defeat encapsulates what has been an uninspiring season for Eddie Howe’s side as they are currently tied with Norwich City for the EPL’s worst team. On the contrary, a win today for Liverpool would accomplish two feats. First, they would pull within one point of Manchester City for the league lead. Secondly, it would also keep them in second place over Chelsea, who is only one point behind them in third place in the table. Above all, Liverpool must gain three points today, and there is no reason why they should not.

Here are a few other miscellaneous notes for the Reds today.

Earlier today, manager Jürgen Klopp gave his thoughts on the Covid-19 vaccine and protocols.

As the world and the Premier League try to combat the new variants, Klopp is steadfast in his views. Moreover, the Reds remain fully vaccinated as a form of solidarity. In other news, Liverpool announced that there would be no player loans sent out next month.  Stay tuned for post-game recaps on today’s action!
