Joe Gomez: Liverpool’s out of favour centre back targeted by La Liga giants

Out of favour Liverpool center-back, Joe Gomez is struggling for game time this season with Joel Matip and new summer signing Ibrahima Konaté being preferred at the back as Virgil Van Djik’s partner in crime.

Now, it has emerged that La Liga giants Real Madrid are looking at the possibility of bringing the 24-year-old to the Santiago Bernabéu in a shock January transfer window move.

Gomez has played only 12 minutes this season and despite being highly regarded by Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool supporters as a high-class squad member, he may be looking for more game time.

According to the Daily Mail, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is looking to bolster his defense and the Liverpool youngster is being looked at as a potential signing.

With COVID already wreaking havoc in the Premier League and Liverpool’s squad, it’s a timely reminder that squad depth is essential to compete week in, week out in Europe’s toughest league.

Gomez may not be getting the time on the pitch he currently deserves, however, age is on his side and the promise he has shown in previous seasons proves he can be pivotal for the reds in the future.

The only thing that has let down Gomez is injuries, his career has been plagued by them and has halted his chances of becoming a solid starter in Jurgen Klopp’s first XI.

It remains to be seen whether or not Gomez’s head can be turned during or after this season, nevertheless, Liverpool fans and Jurgen Klopp will want the promising center-back in Liverpool’s squad for years to come.
