Amidst Liverpool FC’s recent struggles, it has become more than apparent that the club needs a direct injection of both talent and depth across many different positions. As the January transfer window proceeds, rumors have heated up for the Reds. While LFC has been relatively quiet in recent years regarding transfers, the team may be forced with no other choice than to spend if they want to remain contenders across all European competitions. The first player that they are targeting would provide quite the boost.
FC Porto’s Luis Diaz is the big fish the Liverpool has been linked to as of late.
Liverpool FC’s biggest target that they have been linked to this month is FC Porto winger Luis Diaz. The 24 y/o Colombian has scored 13 goals in 16 starts for the Primeira Liga first-place club. Simply put, he is the best player in all of Portugal as of this moment.
Diaz mixes athleticism, attacking prowess, and a powerful right foot that makes him a tough challenge for even the world’s best defenders. However, while the club has been linked and would be a most welcome addition, the latest reports say that he will not be arriving at Anfield in this window.
While signs are pointing to him not becoming a Red this month, there is still a great possibility of him doing so this summer. However, the team may still acquire one other promising young talent.
While Diaz will probably not become a Red this month, an Arsenal talent might.
Shifting back to the English Premier League, LFC has a much more affordable option. Recently, Arsenal midfielder/left back/winger Bukayo Saka has been linked to the Reds. While he does not possess the same star power as Luis Diaz, his versatility would provide Liverpool with a player who can potentially help the aging and struggling midfield.
In 18 starts this season, Saka has scored six goals while also pitching in on four assists. At just 20 y/o, he would come at a price for the Reds but would be well worth the investment.
