Would a FC Barcelona star be a good fit for Liverpool?
By CJ Errickson
Barcelona and Liverpool have been linked together on numerous occasions in recent days. Both clubs seem to have eyes for the talents of the other, and an exchange could be in the works. With that being said, the latest sliver of news out of the Reds camp is that they have a peculiar interest in a Barca winger.
Liverpool must proceed with caution in pursuing Ousmane Dembele.
FCB’s Ousmane Dembele is undeniably an incredible talent from an attacking standpoint. The Frenchman possesses excellent pace and creativity in the attacking third of the pitch that genuinely can lift any offense to an exceptional level.
However, it raises many red flags for someone who has started in less than five matches in two out of the past three seasons. Injuries throughout his career have plagued Dembele, and there is a reason why Barca is willing to let his contract expire this August. The Reds are tight on both money and depth, and a short-term deal is something that manager Jürgen Klopp is admittedly not looking for at this time. However, Ousmane would be a fit for the right price.
Dembele fits the Liverpool mold, but the price tag must match his production.
Overall, this pursuit of Dembele is far too much of a risk for the Reds on multiple fronts. His potential is undeniable, but his asking price and wage demands, given his overall availability, will more than likely both be unreasonable. Should he lower his demands and be willing to stay at LFC for possibly two years on a ‘prove yourself’ style contract – it is possible that his acquisition would be beneficial. However, with many other suitors willing to pay money, expecting him at Liverpool would be more fantasy than reality.
