According to recent reports, Liverpool have been handed a major boost to sign the youngster who they look at as Sadio Mane’s heir.
The player in question is Bayern Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby.
As Liverpool’s squad ages, especially their attack, Jurgen Klopp will have to start looking for players to replace his stars with. While Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are 29 years old, Roberto Firmino is 30.
While Salah seems to be at the peak of his playing career, Sadio Mane has shown some signs of decline. As his contract expires in 2023, it is of paramount importance that Jurgen finds a replacement for Sengealaese star.
While many fans hope, Mane, who has written his name in the Liverpool folklore, stays, chances are he leaves. And if he does leave, an option Liverpool can explore is Bayern Leverkusen’s young star Moussa Diaby.
Moussa Diaby has shown some similarities to Mane in the past and can be the perfect heir to Mane.
The explosive winger has caught the eye of many experts in the football world and has even established himself as a regular member of France’s senior squad this year.
Capable of playing on both sides of the wing, Diaby’s versatility can be utilised by Liverpool in many ways.
Moussa Diaby has already scored eight goals and registered eight assists this season, compared to Mane’s eight goals and one assist for the Reds.
Liverpool were linked with Diaby earlier this season and have just been handed a major boost in their transfer pursuit according to a report by L’Equipe. Other players Liverpool have looked at as Mane’s replacement is Christopher Nkunku and Luis Diaz.
According to the French newspaper, Diaby is looking to leave the club this summer. While Transmarket values Diaby at 40.5 million Pounds, if Diaby forces Leverkusen to let him leave, Liverpool might be able to secure him at a reasonable price.
At the age of 22, he fits FSG’s idea of signing players just below their prime and developing them.
However, with the youngster attracting interest from other clubs too, Liverpool will have to move fast and move well.
