Forwards

Luis Diaz – 8

Diaz came out of the gate hungry, absolutely torturing Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah and just generally making sure to always find space for himself to receive the out-ball. He put his speed and ball-handling on display over a handful of times, dancing his way into the Chelsea box and firing four shots throughout the match, two on target and two blocked. He assisted defensively as well, with two successful tackles on two attempts and a clearance. Diaz was subbed off early in extra time.

Mohamed Salah – 6

Salah was set for a tough battle on Sunday facing off against Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, and it showed. Salah’s first decent opportunity came in the second half with a one-on-one against Mendy off a play-through from Mane, but the Egyptian footed an uncharacteristically bad finish that didn’t even make it on target.

Sadio Mane – 7

Mane had a nice sequence early on finding Keita for a low drive, saved by Mendy, and quickly followed up on the rebound for what could have easily been the opener if not for another heroic save by the Chelsea keeper. He had another shot off target, had a couple of successful dribbles, and four key passes before being subbed in the second half. Mane has now won two trophies in 21 days (AFCON).

Subs

Harvey Elliott (79′, for Henderson) – 7

The young Scouser netted himself a brilliant penalty to keep the Reds in it under immense pressure.

James Milner (79′, for Keita) – 6

Booted a nice kick just inside the left post to start off the penalties. Milner also helped keep the Reds contained and composed during the minor shoving match toward the end of the game, a huge voice of reason and helped keep a bad situation from getting worse.

Diogo Jota (79′, for Mane) – 5

Liverpool fans were delighted to see Jota back in action but he was pretty much muted in this one.

Ibrahim Konate (ET 00′ for Matip) – 6

Konate held up well in assisting in keeping Chelsea’s Lukaku contained and had one interception.

Divock Origi (ET 07′ for Diaz) – 7

No late-game heroics from Origi but he had a few nice passes and controlled the ball well.
