Barcelona’s push to sign Liverpool’s leading man Mohamed Salah this summer has taken a hit after spending limits have been imposed by La Liga.

This will be music to the ears of any Liverpool fan, who are desperate to see Salah sign a new contract with the club, one which he ultimately deserves.

Spanish news outlet Marca claims that Salah is one of a number of top forwards being targeted by Barcelona this summer, as the Spanish giants look to reignite their club’s fortunes under the guidance of their former midfield superstar Xavi.

However, the report states that the club will fail in its pursuit of Liverpool’s main man due to the club’s financial woes and La Liga’s need for the club to follow its strict spending code.

Salah currently has 15 months remaining on his Liverpool contract and is reportedly frustrated by the club’s lack of willingness to budge on their contract structure, a move that has alerted Europe’s top clubs like Barcelona to sniff out a solution for him.

It could be argued that Salah deserves the premium contract he is craving; the Egyptian superstar has been in scintillating form this season; scoring 20 goals and assisting 10 in 27 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Salah, however, isn’t the only forward Barcelona are said to be in talks with for a move to Catalonia this summer, with Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland also being linked to the Spanish club.

The general consensus from Liverpool fans is to give Salah whatever he wants, the forward is clearly in the prime of his career, and arguably the best player in world football right now, the Reds would be silly to let him leave.
