Carvalho is set to join the Reds in June when the summer transfer window opens on a five-year contract after Fulham agreed to a £5 million transfer. Liverpool were linked to Carvalho in this winter’s transfer window, but the deal fell apart in the 11th hour.
A product of Benfica’s academy, Carvalho will join fellow Portuguese, Diogo Jota, and look to find a place in Liverpool’s incredible attack. While I don’t expect the 19-year-old to make an immediate impact, this season in the Championship, Carvalho has contributed, scoring 8 goals and 6 assists as Fulham look to regain a place in the Premier League. They currently sit a comfortable 11 points at the top of the Championship table.
While the mighty Reds gear up to compete for a Quadruple, Jurgen Klopp has quietly been building for the next generation. The future core of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones, and now Fabio Carvalho will ensure Liverpool are competitive for the next decade.
I know it’s not the most exciting signing. It’s certainly not the first name I wanted to see Liverpool agree terms with ( *cough* Salah *cough* ). I definitely have questions about what this means for Roberto Firmino, whose contract is set to expire in 2023 and has been rumored to be a transfer interest of Atletico Madrid’s. But Liverpool are a top side. They always will be going forward. Their form these past few seasons has been a once in a lifetime happening, and they are doing everything in their power to ensure it lasts as long as possible.
