Liverpool defeated Manchester United 4-0 at Anfield and sit alone at the top of the Premier League table.

The Reds dominated United in the first half, taking control early after a Luis Diaz goal assisted by Mohammed Salah in the fifth minute.  Shortly thereafter, Salah snapped his scoring slump, adding a goal of his own on a lovely ball by Sadio Mane in the twenty-second minute.

United fought back briefly before Sadio Mane scored, putting the final nail in the coffin, and Mo Salah added a second goal, his 30th of the season.

The Reds’ midfield deserves praise, as they were creating great opportunities on the through ball throughout the match.  They had 90% pass accuracy and led to 14 shots, giving Liverpool plenty of scoring chances.

Tonight’s win was nothing short of dominant.  Beating Manchester United is sweet no matter the circumstances,  but 9-0 on the season aggregate is beyond anything I would hope for.  Now, at the top of the Premier League, the Quadruple is close within reach.

Mohammed Salah is tonight‘s Man of the Match.

Salah broke out of his scoring slump, scoring two goals and adding an assist.  While Thiago also had an incredible match and was integral to the dominant first half, with 129 touches, and 95% accuracy on 110 passes- Salah breaking out of whatever mental hurdles has been affecting his finishing touch will be critical moving forward in all competitions.  His finishing touch provides more than will ever show up on a score sheet.  We’re ahead today, but City is close behind in the Premier League, and the Reds will need to be all gas no break to make their quadruple dreams a reality.
