Two important takeaways from the 4-0 hammering handed to Manchester United at the hands of Liverpool

Liverpool returns to the top of the Premier League table after crushing Manchester United, keeping their quadruple dream alive
Liverpool’s front three were in fine form at Anfield. Luis Diaz, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah, all assisted each other and got their names on the score sheet during the 4-0 rout of Manchester United at the hands of Liverpool.
Liverpool has done the double over a hapless Manchester United with an emphatic aggregate scoreline of 9-0. The difference between the two teams has possible never been bigger.
Diaz opened the scoring after he met a low cross from Mohamed Salah after a very swift attack. Diaz has taken to life at Liverpool as a fish to water. It seems like he was born to play for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool. His passion, speed, and finishing – are of the highest possible quality!
The lead was doubled on the 25th-minute mark as Mane put Salah through with an orgasmic pass over the United defence – if we can call it a defence. Salah ended his goalscoring drought with a swift finish.
After Diaz and Salah put their names on the scoresheet it was close to impossible to keep Mane away from the action. Mane has been in great form and put the game to bed in the second half after scoring a low cross from Diaz.
The game, which was already put beyond doubt, went into the realms of humiliation when Salah added a fourth.
As a result of this hammering, the Reds sit two points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table. The ball is now in Manchester City’s court who will take on Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday evening.
Here are two important talking points that should be highlighted after the game last night.
Salah’s ‘goal drought’ ends!
It was only a matter of time before Salah found his feet back in front of the goal. I was not very worried regarding his goal drought and actually predicted that he would find the back of the net. He is the man for a big occasion.
Salah is now the first player ever to score 5 goals against Manchester United in a single Premier League season. He also has quietly entered the list of top 20 Premier League goal scorers.
He is just the fourth player to score 30+ goals in three or more seasons for Liverpool. He joins the list after club legends Ian Rush, Roger Hunt, and Robbie Fowler.
Thiago continues his masterclass (and can play with torn shorts)
Thiago Alcantara was written off by most of the Twitter football pundits. However, little did they know that Klopp ‘actually’ knows what he is doing. He has finally found his rhythm and is now the main orchestrator when it comes to our link-up play and creativity.
Keeping him fit for the rest of the season is something that is very important.
Overall, Liverpool is in the middle of a very green patch and only time will tell if Klopp and his men will be able to achieve the unthinkable – the QUADRUPLE!
