Darwin Nunez is the prolific forward on everyone’s lips this evening as Liverpool prepare a club-record deal to bring the 22-year-old to Anfield next season.

The club’s short but sweet pursuit of the Urguyuan looks to be coming to an exciting end, with Jurgen Klopp’s team planning to prepare an opening bid of €80m with add-ons.

Nunez has proven this season his ability to mix it with the elite in Europe and finished the campaign with 34 goals in 41 appearances for Portuguese juggernauts Benfica.

It may have been his ruthless finishing in the Uefa Champions League that was the final convincing factor for Klopp to pull the trigger on a move; scoring against Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Liverpool in both legs of their quarter-final tie.

The move is likely to have been pushed forward, with the inevitable departure of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich drawing ever closer, but in Nunez Liverpool have an extremely exciting replacement.

Speaking a few weeks ago, Virgil Van Dijk named the forward as one of the most fearsome he has faced in his career to date, naming Nunez alongside world-beaters like Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland and Sergio Aguero.

Nunez’s qualities certainly suit the traits needed to be prosperous in the Premier League, he is physical, can score with both feet and maybe the best of them all, a bonafide poacher.

The 22-year-old looks set to redefine Liverpool’s attacking line, Nunez is the type of talent that can spearhead Jurgen Klopp’s team for many years to come,  a terrifying prospect for clubs around Europe.
