Arthur Melo is set to join Liverpool on loan until the end of the 2022/2023 season as the Reds close in on a move for the Juventus midfielder.

In true Liverpool fashion, the Juve midfielder wasn’t a name on the lips of fans in recent weeks and came as a surprise to most Reds this morning.

Nevertheless, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed via his Twitter page that Arthur is flying to the UK “right now” to sign his contract and complete his medical.

Savvy signing

The Brazil international began his career at Gremio in his home country before making the switch to Barcelona in 2018.

The midfielder made 72 appearances for the Catalan giants, scoring four goals and providing six assists during his time in Spain. Arthur then joined Serie A side Juventus in 2020, making 63 appearances for the Italian club. [Transfermarkt].

The 26-year-old will certainly fill the gap in Jurgen Klopp’s injury-ridden squad and provides the team with some security heading into a jam-packed fixture schedule.

Fans may claim that the midfielder hasn’t had the best of times at Juventus, but this likely comes down to the Italian sides playing style clashing with the Brazilian.

And with Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson suffering a suspected hamstring injury the need for an extra man in the engine room isn’t just wanted, it’s desperately needed.

Arthur will be given the chance to shine at Anfield and under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp, he could finally reach his true potential.

This one looks like a done deal and with the transfer window closing at 11 pm in England, expect no last-minute shenanigans with this move.
