Liverpool’s predicted XI for UEFA Champions League against Rangers
By Zubin Daver
Liverpool takes on Rangers on Wednesday evening in their respective fourth group game. This game will kick off at 20.00 hours at the Ibrox Stadium.
Liverpool fell prey to Arsenal and added yet another loss to their result sheet this season. Things went from bad to worse when Luis Diaz and Trent Alexander Arnold both left the pitch injured with the former out for four months and the right back out for 3 weeks.
The numerous injuries to the starting XI will give Jurgen Klopp a selection headache. That being said, here is the predicted starting XI for Liverpool.
Liverpool XI – Formation 4-2-3-1
Goalkeeper
Alisson Becker
He is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and has to start every game during this tough period. Last week, he managed a clean sheet against the Rangers and a repeat of that will be very important.
Defence
Joe Gomez
He looked good when he came on against Arsenal. Given the injury to first-choice Trent, he is likely to make a start in this game.
Ibrahima Konate
Given the injury to Joel Matip, this youngster who returned from injury a couple of weeks back is expected to partner Virgil van Dijk.
Virgil van Dijk
The Dutchman has been a shadow of his former self. But when fully fit, there is no argument or discussion, he has to start.
Kostas Tsimikas
Kostas Tsimikas has been having a run in the team since the injury to Andrew Robertson. The Greek scouser should start this game but we could see Robertson get some game time too.
Midfield
Fabinho
He has not had the best start to the season. After being given a rest, this is a good game for him to start. A win and a clean sheet could do him good.
Thiago Alcantara
He is the best midfielder at the club. When he plays well, Liverpool ticks like a Rad watch, just like perfection. Liverpool will need him on the pitch to exploit Rangers’ defence and create goal-scoring opportunities.
Fabio Carvalho
The youngster has been given a good rest. This is the sort of game where he could have the freedom to operate. Liverpool could feed off some of his hunger. He can operate as a number 10.
Forward
Mohamed Salah
Just like many others, Salah has not hit the levels that we are used to. A game like this could help him get on the scoresheet.
Darwin Nunez
He showed some great glimpses in the Arsenal game. His movement has been good and a run of games will do him good. He has to start at the top tonight.
Diogo Jota
Due to his compelled absence, Diaz through injury, Jota should get the chance to start on the left.
