It is as obvious as day that Liverpool sorely needs new players. The team’s quality has decreased dramatically as the club has found itself unable to compete at the highest level as it did a few seasons ago. Change is unavoidably the most important requirement.

While the team need a comprehensive overhaul, the weak midfield, which has suffered the most but has the potential to recover the fastest, must be corrected quickly.

Liverpool has been tracking a handful of international stars to bring to Anfield during the next summer transfer window. Names like Jude Bellingham and Enzo Fernandez are the top prospects on the radar of the Merseyside club. Their pursuit, however, is not as easy as one might anticipate.

In the middle of all of this, a new Premier League name has arisen that Liverpool appears to be increasingly interested in.

Liverpool is exploring signing Chelsea midfielder next summer

According to a report from Spanish newspaper El Nacional via Football365, Liverpool may be looking to sign Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante during the upcoming transfer window at the conclusion of the season. The rumor is that Jurgen Klopp came up with the defensive midfielder’s name before Fenway Sports Group.

Klopp feels Kante would be a wonderful addition to the club as part of the squad rebuilding plan, and because the World Cup winner’s contract with Chelsea expires at the end of the season with no signs of a possible extension, signing him as a free agent wouldn’t be such a terrible idea after all.

It is apparent that Liverpool’s midfield lacks quality and depth, and the arrival of a dependable defensive midfielder like Kante may be a positive step towards re-knitting the loose connections in the center of the field.

He is a world-class defensive midfielder who can scan the field ceaselessly all game long and may really benefit Liverpool, but the transfer must be thoroughly thought out and calculated.

Before betting the farm on Kante, there are additional issues that need to be taken into account. His injury history is a major concern, since his frail character does not make him reliable enough for continuous performances. Kante is 31 years old, and with age taking its toll on fitness, the injury worries may worsen rather than improve.

So there you have it. This is not to say that Kante is a bad player; rather, it is to say that before going all in, all factors must be properly analyzed.
