Three key ways for Liverpool to move up the Premier League table
Klopp needs to add versatility to his toolbox
Okay, Jurgen Klopp is an incredible manager. He’s one of the best coaches of all time and one of my favourite managers ever. But, even the best managers have weaknesses, and Jurgen is no exception to this rule.
He’s very talented tactically, but the problem with the German tactician isn’t his tactics, but his refusal to change the system when the system is not working. This midfield, the current state of Liverpool’s midfield is not good enough to run a press as aggressively as Liverpool’s. They don’t have the right players in certain positions, and they still choose to go with the same system, the same formation.
Klopp’s best bet right now would be using a 4-4-2, having two wide midfielders to press and attack but also to cover for their fullbacks, and two strikers, one to support Nunez. Whether that’s Salah or Jota, that’s a different question.

But Liverpool need a change of system when their current system is not working. They don’t need to permanently go away from their counter-pressing scheme. Hell, they don’t have to go away at all. They need to tone it down a little bit, and/or maybe use a different formation so that it is at least usable.
