Liverpool’s Champions League tie with Real Madrid looms around the corner, with both teams facing fitness issues this season. Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos are doubts for the game against Liverpool, while Ferland Mendy is ruled out completely.

On the other hand, Ibrahima Konate, Thiago and Luis Diaz are definitely out for Liverpool, while they have other players waiting medical approval.

But now, it seems that things have changed for the worse. Liverpool have another problem on their plate. Well, potentially, anyway.

In the 2-0 win over Newcastle United – a very impressive performance from Liverpool – Darwin Nunez was subbed off towards the end of the game because of a shoulder issue. Klopp talked about it in the press and said that Nunez had some discomfort in his shoulder, and hopefully it’s just pain and nothing beyond that.

Liverpool cannot afford to lose Darwin Nunez to injury

If it is beyond that, then that would be a huge problem, especially now. First of all, Liverpool are facing a great team and they do need all their players.

Secondly, Nunez has missed many chances, but has done other things right. In the game against Newcastle, he finally scored a goal, and he would’ve tried to build on that against Real Madrid.

Obviously, it’s not confirmed yet. It might just be a precaution. No one knows the extent of the injury because the proper tests required have not been carried out on the Uruguayan yet. But, if he is injured, then Klopp will once again have to shift things around.

If Jota is not fit enough to start, we might see Roberto Firmino play there, or Gakpo play as a nine and Harvey Eliott on the wing. At this point, we don’t know, but Nunez may become a doubt for the Real Madrid clash, and Klopp will need to rely on other players to take him past the finish line.
