Liverpool’s owner makes bold statements about the club’s future
Liverpool’s ownership seat has recently been the subject of intense public debate and criticism. The fans are dissatisfied with the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, regarding transfer policies and other issues.
It has been said that the owners have not been as interested in transfers as they should have been, particularly recently when the team was desperate for fresh players.
It is not incorrect to suggest that the criticism is partially legitimate, but it also goes a little too far at times. Notwithstanding the splendor brought to Anfield under he FSG ownership in recent seasons, many have advocated for their resignation.
At the same time, many investors from other areas of the world had their eyes on the Merseyside club for a long time, considering FSG’s invitation to new investors. But, for various reasons, the possible bidders have withdrawn from the proposed transaction.
In the midst of all the uncertainty over Liverpool’s future and if new faces would head the club, the owners have broken their silence to clear the air.
John Henry has finally addressed the uncertainty over Liverpool’s future
Liverpool’s owners had been rather quiet in the face of all the speculation in the market until now, when John Henry finally goes out with his version of the tale.
According to responses supplied to the Boston Sports Journal, Henry testified that there is no intention of selling Liverpool. The American businessman goes on to say:
"Yes, I know there has been a lot of conversation and quotes about LFC (Liverpool Football Club), but I keep to the facts: we merely formalized an ongoing process. Will we be in England forever? No. Are we selling LFC? No. Are we talking with investors about LFC? Yes. Will something happen there? I believe so, but it won’t be a sale. Have we sold anything in the past 20+ years?"
The aforementioned statements confirm that Liverpool will not be sold in its entirety anytime soon. Instead, as constantly reported in the media, the search for minority shareholders continues.
This is a question I’ll leave to you, Reds, to consider whether or not this decision benefits Liverpool.
