Liverpool were quick to tie up the 35 million GBP signing of Argentinian midfielder Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton over the last few days and will want to move on to their next target as soon as possible. Jurgen Klopp as told the club to get all their business done before coming back for pre-season training, which currently means on-going discussions with several different players.
Transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, has said that the reds have officially approached OGC Nice’s athletic beast of a baller Khephren Thuram, but may face stiff competition from PSG to get his signature. Thuram is a top top prospect and would bring a physicality mixed with a technical and ball carrying ability that we have never seen in a Klopp midfield. He’s direct, aggressive in his play and has the potential to score goals from deep and create opportunities for other, which would make him a lethal weapon on the Liverpool 2023/24 comeback tour.
However, the Parisians are also looking to rebuild their current squad and have pinpointed Khephren and his brother Marcus as potential stars. While it seems Marcus will definitely make the move on a free transfer, the club are hoping to use this signing and the family connection to entice Khephren as well.
Despite this Liverpool remain one of the from runners for his signature having already put in some solid groundwork in recent weeks. Talks were only put on hold as Klopp and Co finalised the signing of Mac Allister. But with that now done and dusted and PSG sniffing around, I would expect new sporting director Jorg Schmadtke to either get the Thuram deal done by the end of the week of move on to another target. But my sneaking suspicion is that Klopp really want’s this one and I think we will see Khephren Thuram lining up along side Mac Allister and Jordan Henderson in August.
