With Manchester Utd on the verge of being taken over by some dude from Qatar the social media meltdown by many Liverpool fans has been intense, but is it warranted? The thought of having three State owned clubs in the Premier League is a scary premise, surely they will buy all of the best players and dominate the competition between them for years to come, leaving Liverpool to battle it out for Europa League glory. Or will it?

People will instantly point towards Manchester City’s recent treble and their five EPL titles in the past six years as a sign of the future. They have spent 1.5 Billion on assembling a team that many see as untouchable and if Newcastle do the same along with Manchester Utd then it’s game over for everyone. Because, let’s be honest, the more you spend on players the more dominant you will be.

But for me this is too simplistic, Manchester Utd are the biggest spenders in England and have not won a league title in over a decade. Chelsea were the first club to dominate the transfer market in a dramatic way and have had sporadic success because of it but have never been as dominant as City. The job that Pep Guardiola has done is phenomenal, yes he’s had the freedom to strengthen the squad as he needs but to take all of those players and ensure each and everyone knows their positions inside out so that any rotation is seamless is great coaching. If Pep has no influence, then why isn’t Mark Hughes still in control and winning every trophy available?

Chelsea have also proven this season that spending on top players and just throwing them together doesn’t guarantee success. So for each of the state owned clubs just spending on players will mean nothing on the face of it as there isn’t another Pep Guardiola out there that will be able to produce the same kind of consistency.

Then we come to the players themselves. The theory is that the State owned club will sign all of the best current players and and all of the best up and coming players in the world making it impossible for Liverpool to compete. But how many truly world class players are there? 20? 30? Let’s be fair and say there are 30. These are currently spread around many clubs, Liverpool included. Beyond that there are many, many super talented guys that need quality coaching and a proper system to get the best out of them and that number of players with potential are far too numerous for just three clubs to hog them all. Then there is the fact that not everyone will want to play in Manchester or in Newcastle. As strange is it may seem to some fans players do take things other than money into account. So with all of this in mind you can see it won’t be as simple as social media is saying to amass a truly world class squad despite having endless money available.

Liverpool are still a massive draw and I guarantee we will always be able to attract the talent to compete. It will basically boil down to getting the football department in place and bringing in the right players to fit the system.

Football is not black and white. It is not as easy as just buying players as there are far more factors that go into building a successful squad and it’s actually sad to see the Twitter fans throw in the towel so easily after one poor season.

In my opinion Liverpool are not anywhere near done as we still have top players in the squad. Yes, we need reinforcements this summer, which we will get, and I promise that next season we will be back challenging for major trophies once again.
