The rumors about Liverpool possibly swooping in for Dominik Szoboszlai really began picking up steam only a day or so ago. Fans and media woke up on this last Friday of June to the news that the Reds were engaging both the player and his club with the intention of a swift resolution.

A few hours later, they had their man as the club triggered his 60 million GBP release clause. It was a refreshing bit of swift and ruthlessly efficient transfer business. The scouting department and board room staff led by Jorge Schmadtke, should be applauded and deserve a good nights rest after a job well done.

However, this does not absolve the club from all backlash as this kind of transfer business is not the norm. Endless summer (and January) long transfer sagas have become to commonplace in recent years.

Insert star player’s name here, linked with Liverpool, among others, and let the weeks of static movement commence. These typically end with the Anfield outfit not getting the aforementioned superstar and instead having to pivot to a lesser known entity.

See, Arthur Melo and his disastrous loan move last summer on deadline day. Liverpool have shown on various occasions in the past they are more than capable of getting deals over the line when they identify a true target.

Liverpool have been linked with Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone before the season even ended. Yet, while some progress has been made, no deals are across the line as of yet. Yes, existing release clauses do help tremendously in these situations, but a club of Liverpool’s stature should be able to walk into a room and pitch a plan with a competent financial package regardless.

It’s almost reaching a point to expect the Reds to sign a player they have not been linked with over names that consistently pop up around them, such as Mount, Neves and Caicedo to name a few recent ones.

Overall, the swift and confident business to bring in a player like Szoboszlai is brilliant for the fans and the club. More confident transfer work like this in the future, and fans might rest a little easier knowing the powers that be at this legendary club have their best interests in mind.

Here’s to more deals getting done with such ruthless effectiveness in the future.
