We are on the doorstep of yet another season of Premier League football at Anfield. Throughout the season to come, we will periodically see if we can look into the future to determine how many points the Reds can get from their next 5.

There is no better way to start then opening weekend. Here is a list of the opening 5 matches for Liverpool.

CHELSEA (A). BOURNEMOUTH (H). NEWCASTLE (A). ASTON VILLA (H). WOLVES (A).

Three away fixtures including tough trips to Stamford Bridge and St. James Park is a rough start to begin the season. So let’s jump into things right away.

Chelsea – This match is already tense with the Blues and Reds being big rivals. Having also played in two recent Cup Finals, both won by Liverpool on penalties, has only elevated things.

However, the Moises Caicedo transfer drama has added yet another dynamic to things. On the field, there has not been much to separate these two as 0-0 draws have become the norm. As of writing, neither defense exudes confidence, so goals will be scored. Prediction: 1-1 Draw

Bournemouth – It was at Anfield last August that Liverpool eviscerated the Cherries 9-0. While that proved to be one of the highlights of the season for Liverpool, Bournemouth have done little to improve their own stock.

The Liverpool attack has looked potent once again during the preseason and I don’t believe Bournemouth can handle it. Prediction: Liverpool wins 3-1.

Newcastle – If you told Jurgen Klopp he would have 4 points heading to St. James for their 3rd match I believe he would take it. The Magpies have been steadily strengthening their squad over the last 18 months.

Losing the dynamic Allan Saint-Maximin is a blow, but they have plenty of attacking talent left. Sandro Tonali at the No. 6 could be the key for them.

This will be a tough fixture for the Reds who did win here in the Spring. However, I don’t think they get it done this time and the defense cannot hold it. Prediction: Newcastle wins 3-2.

Aston Villa – The Villans have found a new gear under Unai Emery. They have significantly strengthened this summer bringing in the likes of Moussa Diaby, Pau Torres and Youri Tielemans.

However, even with those new additions and a renewed confidence under Emery, coming to Anfield is a whole new challenge. I think this proves to be the Reds best performance in the early season as they click things into gear. Prediction: Liverpool wins 3-0.

Wolves – This Wolves team is not the same one that the Reds became quite familiar with in late winter this year. Gone are Adama Traore, Ruben Neves, Raul Jimenez and Joao Moutinho. They will likely be battling in the lower half of the table this season.

As it were, playing at Molineux Stadium is no easy trip for any side. I think Liverpool secure a good result, but they make it hard on themselves. Prediction Liverpool win 2-1.

So by my count I have Liverpool picking up 10 points from a possible 15 to begin the season. Obviously I hope I’m wrong and it’s a perfect 15 out of 15.

However, there are still too many questions that need answering to cruise through a tough opening slate like that. Points will be at a premium early, so Klopp better have the lads ready to roll from the jump.
