While the main objective during international breaks is to get players back to Anfield in one piece, we also do want to see them performing at the highest level. In this piece I will take a look at how Liverpool’s stars are fairing for their countries.

Cody Gakpo & Virgil Van Dijk (Netherlands) – Even though he can’t play for Liverpool at the moment, Virgil Van Dijk still captained his nation in their Euro 2024 qualifier against Greece. He steadied the ship at the back as the Oranje ran out 3-0 winners.

Gakpo got himself on the score sheet with a comfortable and skillful finish. He started in a left attacking midfield position that allowed him to float in and out as things dictated.

This was a confident performance that Jurgen Klopp will be happy to see.

Dominik Szoboszlai (Hungary) – Szoboszlai got the full 90 minutes as he led his Hungarian side to a 2-1 Euro Qualifying win over Serbia. He did not score or bag an assist but he was his usual confident self both on and off the ball.

He had 3 tackles to go along with his ever dangerous crossing ability. He carried his box-to-box mentality to the National Team for sure. Hungary are fairing well early in the qualification process and Dom is a key piece.

Andy Robertson (Scotland) – Robbo got the full workload as he played as a left-midfielder for the Scots. He was a dangerous threat going forward as ever as he put in 7 crosses during the match.

Scotland defeated Cyprus comfortably 3-0 in this contest and Robbo and his country mates will look to keep their perfect record going.

Diogo Jota (Portugal) – Jota was an unused substitute in the 1-0 victory over Slovakia.

Kostas Tsimikas (Greece) – The Greek Scouser had his hands full with Gakpo and Co. attacking him constantly but he did the best he could from a tough spot. He was booked in the 44th minute but he also made sure he got forward.

He put 8 crosses into the box and took 2 corners for the Greeks. It is nice to see him fairing well when given a chance to start.

Darwin Nunez (Uruguay) – Nunez got the start and kept his confident level going as he recorded an assist along with 6 shots and 3 of which were on target. He has been fairing well when given the chance to run so this was good to see him keep it going as his nation got a 3-1 World Cup qualifier win over Chile.

Alexis Mac Allister (Argentina) – Mac Allister got the start on the left side of the midfield next to Enzo Fernandez and he was workmanlike as always. His 77 minutes on the pitch were not flashy but he moved things well and got stuck in when the opportunity presented itself.

Wataru Endo (Japan) – Endo is getting the start in the heart of the midfield for Japan as their friendly against Germany is about to kickoff as of this writing.
