The current Liverpool squad has many questions, Klopp has regained their excitement and brilliance but their depth is the main issue. With the International break continuing, Liverpool have 13 players that are representing their beloved countries. They cannot afford injuries and knocks for their Premier League title hopes. We have fitness updates to share below.
Injuries:
Andrew Robertson: LB
Robbo has been fantastic for Liverpool this year. As age becomes a question, his dominance on the pitch continues.
In a recent international friendly against Spain, Robertson collided with Spanish goalkeeper, Unai Simon.
Already qualified for the Euros, he was subbed at halftime clutching his right shoulder. A mid November due date is what the doctors say. With the defensive depth already in question, Liverpool need the “ Greek Scouser” Kostas Tsimikas to step up.
Thiago Alcantara: CM
Liverpool need Thiago to come back and make an impact. His technique, skill and ability are missed when they don’t have a true defensive midfielder.
With an injury riddled history, he has still not played in 2023 yet. After overcoming a hamstring injury, he suffered a setback with a hip injury. His expected return is day to day but as his age rises, more fitness questions become evident.
Liverpool are still targeting various young midfielders, will Thiago return next summer?
Stefan Bajcetic: CDM
With Liverpool still needing a true number six, Bajcetic is a clear answer. With Gravenberch playing more offensively, they need a true defensive midfielder.
Rumors seem to fluctuate daily about his future in Red but the Spanish youngster will get game time when he returns from injury.
A hamstring injury is keeping him out until late October, Can Bajcetic get his fitness issues resolved for Nottingham Forest on the 29th of October? We hope so.
Cody Gakpo: CF/LW
An underrated player for Liverpool, Gakpo bagged 2 goals in 7 matches. His “False 9” role, famously played by Roberto Firmino is where Gakpo thrives.
He injured his knee against Tottenham on his goal. But, he is expected back in late October. With the International break in full flight, it has been perfect for rehabbing his injury. His fitness will be a big key going into the return of the Premier League.
