Another international break is coming to a close around the footballing world. The greatest fear of clubs, a player being injured playing for the national team, sprang up with Neymar tearing his ACL and unfortunately for Liverpool, Andy Robertson injuring his shoulder. With that background, the Reds must move forward with a Merseyside Derby on the horizon.

The “Greek Scouser” Kostas Tsimikas will be asked to step into the Scots’ shoes at the left-back position. He is one of the better deputies at the position in the Premier League.

Liverpool welcomes the Toffees of Everton to Anfield with yet another early kickoff following a break. That is another discussion for a different day but you know Jurgen Klopp isn’t happy.

In terms of the on-field action, the two Merseyside clubs could not be further apart in their current situations.

The Reds are sitting in the Top 4 with the possibility of even more points sitting out there were it not for questionable decision making from the powers that be.

Everton lies on the other side of the spectrum with their 7 points seeing them sit in 16th in the table.

They lost to the feel good story side of the season, Luton Town, before the break kicked off. Klopp and his men will be salivating at the chance to inflict double the damage when things kick off on Saturday.

The Toffees will try to bring some gumption to this edition of the Merseyside Derby through the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucoure, their two leading scorers.

They have conceded 12 goals through 8 matches so it’s not as if their defense has been a total sieve, but you would bet the Reds should be able to bag a few.

Everton winning at Anfield in 2021 is their only win over Liverpool since 2010. The Reds have been the kings of Merseyside for awhile now and things do not look to be changing anytime soon.

However, with a few key injuries raring their ugly head, a difficult start time and the energy of a Derby means Liverpool will need to come out on the front foot and put things to bed early. Leave no doubt about who the best club is.

Long may the Reds be the masters of Merseyside.
