3 things I want to see when Liverpool faces Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final

After a tricky loss in the week, Liverpool take the trip to Wembley Stadium to face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.

Liverpool will be favorites in the League Cup Final, no questions, but will face a stern test from a Newcastle team who have not won a trophy since the Inter City Fairs Cup in 1969.

Ahead of a tricky cup tie, here are three things I would like to see from Liverpool's Wembley date with Newcastle.

No sulking after Paris Saint-Germain

Tuesday night was a tough one to take. Not that we deserved any better necessarily, but tough nonetheless.

When we dominate a team in our own ground, even for a parts of a game, you expect that to be enough.

We came up against a really good team that had other ideas, and there are other good teams.

Liverpool's season is really difficult to completely derail at this point, being so far clear in the Premier League.

But we can make a great season even greater, a league and cup double sounds really cool.

It is important that heads don't drop, and we don't feel tired and sorry for ourselves, Newcastle are a good team who will run. We have to be alert.

A Goal from Darwin Nunez

Don't get me wrong, if it means getting over the line, I would take it from any source.

If it came from a certain Uruguayan, even sweeter.

After his penalty miss midweek, that felt like the final nail in his Liverpool coffin, wouldn't it be nice if he just turned up and scored?

The man is mercurial in mood, in footballing ability, and in others' perception of him.

There have been times when he has done my head in, times when he has given me immense joy, times when he has done the shocking thing.

We are Liverpool, and Darwin will never walk alone.

Whatever the future may hold, a man that needs confidence, needs it no more readily than in this week. Whether it's the end or not, a goal would hand that man the appreciation he deserves.

Liverpool to lift the Carabao Cup

Under its many monikers, Liverpool have had an affinity with the League Cup.

From the first time Liverpool won it, a replay at Villa Park versus West Ham United in 1981, the trophy has been all but ours to keep.

Liverpool have lifted the three handles ten times, more than any other team.

Aside from a spell of Manchester City dominance in the late 2010s and early 2020s, it has belonged to Liverpool.

Comparatively, Newcastle United have never won it.

In Liverpool's recent triumphs in 2022 and 2024, great stories have been etched, from Takumi Minamino's cup power-up to Jürgen Klopp's Carabao winning kids.

Major trophies, Liverpool 46, Manchester United 44.

It is time to keep what is ours. Back on our perch.
