3 Ways Luis Diaz can have an important impact down the stretch

The Colombian winger could play a vital role for Liverpool in their hunt for silverware in various competitions.

Luis Diaz began the 2024/25 season by scoring 4 goals in his first four Premier League matches. It appeared as though the Colombian winger had finally put his finishing woes behind him and was taking the next step.

Only a handful of goals followed over the next few months, with a hattrick against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League in November being the standout.

He has not been able to maintain that scoring threat over the ensuing few months. Having sored in Sunday's win over Wolves, I'm here to discuss three ways Diaz could be very important as the season races to its climax.

1. More Lucho goals can take some pressure off of Salah

Liverpool have been blessed that Mohamed Salah has been in some of the best form of his career this season as he has scored and created goals almost at will this season.

However, for as amazing as he is, the Reds cannot be solely reliant on one player to score all of their goals across several competitions.

If Diaz can once again bring consistent goals back into his game, it would allow Arne Slot to rest Salah more, which in turn keeps him fresh for the signature meetings that are inevitably going to come. He could shoulder the load some weeks to make sure the machine keeps going.

He does not have to be as prolific as our No. 11, but him scoring more goals would also keep the defense honest, which in turn will create more space for others.

2. Play like he does for Colombia

Diaz has been a very good player at Liverpool, there is no denying that. However, there is also no denying that he seemingly takes his game to a new level when he represents his country.

Obviously he has more responsibilities for Colombia and a lot of their attacks go through him, but he plays with such high-level confidence they can do that with true belief.

If he can bring this swagger and big-match experience to club level, he would be considered one of the best players in the Premier League and Champions League. This level Lucho would give Slot another focal point to run the attack through.

His work-rate is never in question, but he finds a new gear when he pulls on the national team shirt. If Liverpool can harness that version of Luis Diaz for themselves, he could form perhaps one of the best attacking duos in the world alongside Salah.

National Team Luis Diaz could take the Reds to the next level.

3. Keep building an understanding with Salah and Darwin Nunez

Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo could also fall here, but I went with the above two because they are the ones that typically play with Diaz the most.

Diaz's interplay with Salah and Nunez has been impressive at times during his Reds tenure, but it doesn't always land. If he can keep growing his understanding with these two, it could turn the Liverpool attack into a true monster.

All three of them are versatile players that can interchange at will during a match which gives the forward line a lot of flexibility to it.

Diaz can utilize his dribbling prowess to free up the physical gifts of Darwin while also allowing Salah to roam one-on-one on the other side.

If they can get on the same page on a consistent basis in terms of runs, 1-2's, trust and more, the Reds could run away and hide in the league and UCL.
