International breaks are usually a miserable affair for football supporters, but Alexander Isak has just given the Anfield faithful something to grin about.
While Liverpool’s coaching and medical staff are currently waiting on collective edge to determine the full extent of the "minor" toe and thigh issue that saw him return early from international duty with Sweden, the £125m striker has ensured his name remains firmly on the lips of supporters Newcastle and Liverpool.
With the Reds currently sweating over a mounting injury crisis following Cody Gakpo's ankle blow and Isak’s own early return to Kirkby with a minor toe and thigh issue, the £125m man took time out to sit down for a quickfire interview with Viaplay.
What followed was a moment of sheer, unadulterated coldness that proves Isak is already 100% Red through and through.
"Signing With Liverpool" – Isak drops Tyneside bombshell
Given five entire years in English football and 54 top-flight goals during his time at Newcastle United, Isak was asked to look back over his career and name his absolute favourite Premier League memory so far.
Now, he had a massive catalogue of personal highlights to pick from. He could have chosen his debut goal at Anfield, his unbelievable touchline dribble to set up Jacob Murphy against Everton, or his final long-range rocket past Caoimhin Kelleher.
Instead? Isak looked straight into the camera, didn't even crack a smile, and dropped a six-word response:
"Signing with Liverpool."
Delivered with a completely straight face, it was a cold, direct line that will undoubtedly send anger on Tyneside, where the contentious nature of his deadline-day exit clearly still in their minds. But for the Anfield faithful, it was music to the ears a firm declaration that despite his past on Tyneside, Isak considers putting pen to paper for the Reds as the defining moment of his career.
High Praise for an Unsung Hero at Kirkby
That was not the only notable takeaway from Isak's conversation, which provided a fascinating glimpse into his early impressions of the squad culture being cultivated by Andoni Iraola.
When asked to name the single most underrated teammate he has ever shared a changing room with a list that spans spells at Borussia Dortmund, Real Sociedad, Newcastle, and Sweden Isak passed over a raft of international household names to spotlight a homegrown Liverpool midfielder: Curtis Jones.
The tribute speaks volumes about the high regard in which the Toxteth-born midfielder is held inside the AXA Training Centre, even if his technical security and press resistance don't always grab the headlines and after his depature to Inter Milan.
Elsewhere in the interview, Isak was asked to sum up the current Liverpool dressing room in a single word. His answer was brief:

He went on to name David Silva as the finest player he has shared a pitch with, credited the Anfield support as the standout feature of the club, and identified representing Sweden at the World Cup as the proudest personal milestone of his career so far.
The big goal ahead
Having already hit four goals in five Premier League appearances this term following a deliberate, patient integration period, Isak’s primary objective remains crystal clear. When pressed on his remaining ambition before he eventually hangs up his boots, he didn't hesitate:
"To win a massive trophy."
