Bayer Leverkusen carry an interest in signing a young Liverpool defender

The German club have earmarked a high potential young Liverpool defender to be their long-term solution in defense.

Most Liverpool fans, myself included, are still riding the high of Fabrizio Romano tagging Florian Wirtz to the Reds with his patented; "Here We Go".

With that in mind, the transfer window does not stop. It doesn't matter how amazing you are feeling, there are always other deals on the table to be made.

If some reports are to be taken seriously, Bayer Leverkusen and Liverpool might be coming to the negotiating table for a third time after Wirtz and the earlier Jeremie Frimpong deals were completed with relative ease.

Leverkusen must replace Tah

The 2023/24 Bundesliga champions lost one of their most important defenders this summer when Jonathan Tah joined their rivals Bayern Munich.

Tah, who is a free agent, joined Bayern in time for the Club World Cup after Leverkusen accepted around €750,000 to accelerate the move, per BILD.

With that backdrop, new Bayer boss Erik Ten Hag is in the market for new central defenders to take the club into the next era following the hugely successful 2-year Xabi Alonso stint. That brings us to Liverpool.

As we have seen this summer, both the Reds and Schwarzroten have worked together in short order this summer to facilitate two new major signings at Anfield. In addition, Liverpool gave Brentford a bargain on Caoimhin Kelleher so Leverkusen could sign Bees' keeper Mark Flekken on a reasonable deal.

There is very much a healthy business relationship right now between the two clubs and the German side are considering going back to the well for a signing of their own.

Jarell Quansah drawing interest from abroad

The player in question that has their eye is 22 year-old Jarell Quansah. The Englishman has had an up-and-down first two seasons with the first team at Anfield.

He burst onto the scene against Newcastle and Wolves early in Jürgen Klopp's final season, and did not look back. He made 34 total appearances in 2023/24 contributing 3 goals and 3 assists while playing with a maturity well beyond his years.

It looked as if the Reds had a long-term answer in center defense, but that was not long to be the case.

A rough start under Arne Slot meant his chances were limited over the next 4-5 months registering only 25 matches played in all comps this season.

That has not stopped interest coming from several clubs with Leverkusen seemingly keen on making him the new focal point of their defense now and in the future.

Nothing is guaranteed yet, but with the connection we have seen in transfer dealings between these two clubs, this move could very well be on the cards.
