Brentford vs Liverpool match preview
Recent Form
Brentford (Home side): Six games into this Premier League season, Brentford remain unbeaten, thereby kicking off fourth, above their visitors. Last time out, the Bees played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, in which Yehor Yarmolyuk and Kristoffer Ajer were the scorers at Villa Park.
Four of Brentford's six games have produced draws, but Keith Andrews' side have certainly proved that they are dangerous in front of their own fans. The Bees have already smashed both Tottenham and Chelsea 3-0 at the Gtech this season, meaning they have lost only three of 22 Premier League home games since the start of the previous campaign. So, can they now claim another scalp?

Liverpool (Away team): Liverpool meantime are attempting to negotiate a challenging week. Last Sunday, Andoni Iraola suffered his first defeat as boss, beaten 3-0 by Manchester City at Anfield, all the goals coming in the final half an hour, after Ryan Gravenberch had been dismissed. Having won just two of six league games to date, beating Ipswich and Bournemouth, the Reds are down in ninth, albeit just a point below Brentford in a congested area of the table.
The Reds then bounced back on Wednesday evening, demolishing LASK 6-3 in the Champions League. Given that they were 4-0 and 5-1 up at the Raiffeisen Arena before die Schwarz-Weißen showed any signs of life, the win was even more comfortable than that scoreline would suggest. So now, can Liverpool pass this very tough test, seeking three consecutive Premier League away wins for the first time since October 2024?
Brentford team news
Having had a free week to prepare, Keith Andrews' side will certainly be the fresher. Kevin Schade is out, after suffering a shoulder injury at Villa Park, so Dango Ouattara is forecast to come into attack. Similarly, centre-back Jannik Schuster is also a doubt, picking up a knock a week ago.
Caoimhín Kelleher will be donning the gloves against his former side, while fellow former reds Sepp van den Berg and Fábio Carvalho could feature at some stage too. Vitaly Janelt will sit out next Sunday's visit to Hull if booked.
Liverpool team news

Andoni Iraola is without Ryan Gravenberch, who is suspended. This means that, having impressed in Austria, there will be a first Premier League start for teenager Trey Nyoni at the base of midfield.
Meantime, Iraola refused to categorically rule out any of Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo or Alexander Isak, albeit it seems highly unlikely that any of the trio will be fit to feature; the Hungarian midfielder is the most-likely to do so.
Compared to the team that beat LASK in mid-week, Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister and Miloš Kerkez will return, while Víctor Muñoz could be back in attack too. Bradley Barcola opened his account for the club at Oberösterreich Arena, bagging a hat-trick no less, so should be full of confidence.
Predicted Line-ups
- Brentford predicted lineup: Kelleher; Kayode, van den Berg, Ajer, Diouf; Yarmolyuk, Sangaré, Lewis-Potter; Ouattara, Anthony, Thiago.
- Liverpool predicted lineup: Alisson; Araújo, Jacquet, van Dijk, Kerkez; Nyoni, Mac Allister, Wirtz; Muñoz, Koumas, Barcola.
- Score prediction: Brentford 2-1 Liverpool.
What the manager have said
Keith Andrews (Brentford): The grit, the resilience, some of our play was really good at times. The reaction to going 2-1 down to come back, and then I think if we had been ourselves in the last 10 or 15 minutes, there were opportunities where we could have gone and won the game.
Andoni Iraola (Liverpool): Brentford have good players, they understand what they are trying to do. They are runners and a good team. In this period especially, when we are basically playing every three days... you need more players. That’s why we changed the team... we will need to change again at the weekend.
