Harvey Elliott has officially completed a deadline-day loan move to La Liga side Valencia, bringing a temporary halt to his Anfield career.
He has packed his bags for Spain to finally get some proper minutes on the pitch, having completely fallen out of the picture and missed out on the matchday squads for the start of the season having missed back-to-back 2-2 draws against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.
At the start of the transfer window, this is not a transfer anyone would have predicted but, on deadline day, it became a reality. After touching down in Spain on Monday, Valencia have officially confirmed the signing of Harvey Elliott on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool.
While confirming the transfer, Liverpool had this to say on their offical website:
"The 23-year-old completed the switch to the La Liga club ahead of the closure of the summer transfer window. Elliott has been with the Reds since joining from Fulham in 2019, making 149 appearances and scoring 15 goals. He contributed to Premier League title successes in both 2019-20 and 2024-25, alongside medals for the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, League Cup and FA Cup. Elliott was on loan at Aston Villa during the previous campaign, before returning to Liverpool in the summer. We all wish Harvey the best of luck during his time with Valencia."
The Englishman's departure has felt inevitable for a few weeks now. Which is a real shame he is a player who came up through the youth system at Fulham, becoming the youngest ever Premier League debutant at 16.
In 2019 he joined Liverpool FC, with whom he has played 149 official games, won two Premier League titles, two Carabao Cups, the FA Cup, the Community Shield, the European Supercup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
During his career, he has also played on loan at Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa but the loan under Unai Emery didnt go to plan last season unfortunately. Internationally, he has been a key player for England's youth teams, winning the UEFA Under-21s European Championship in 2023 and 2025. In the latter edition, he had a decisive performance and was recognised as the tournament's best player.
When asked about this decision, head coach Andoni Iraola was pretty honest, stating: "Harvey is trying and improving every week but I still prefer other options, about the balance on the bench". Thus, it was pretty clear that the 23 year old was not central to his plans.
It was not always like this though. Back in mid-July, when Liverpool's pre-season preparations began, Iraola asserted the following, which suggested he wanted to keep the Englishman around:
"Definitely! Harvey is here with us, I have seen him with the eagerness to show up, get super ready, he will have a chance in pre-season, we will need him... I think Harvey comes from last season had to be difficult for him, strange situation, they could not even play him... the bad situation [will] make himself even more eager to be a Liverpool player"Andoni Iraola

Elliott himself meantime said, after starting a friendly win over Wrexham in New York, that it was "an incredible feeling" to be back, adding, that "everyone knows how much I love the club... the feeling never goes of putting a shirt on, representing the club and doing your childhood dream".
However, he may now have worn the famous red shirt for the final time. Given Valencia's financial situation, no matter how he performs at Mestalla, los Che are unlikely to be able to pay a sizeable fee to keep him. His current Liverpool contract expires in 2027, so it remains unclear what the plan is.
Fans though will surely wish him all the best, starting on Sunday when Carlos Corberán's team will host Barcelona. Elliott may well make his La Liga debut against the reigning champions.
