Despite Liverpool enduring a difficult season, there will still be plenty of their players at the World Cup this summer. This is because the Reds are still one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League and still have many top internationals. The likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Alisson will all likely be starting for their countries.
Liverpool could have one of the biggest World Cup contingents
There could be 14 different Liverpool players at the World Cup this summer, representing 10 different countries. Top nations, including Germany, Brazil, Argentina, France, and the Netherlands, should all have at least one Reds player in their rosters.
Manchester City and Arsenal are expected to have more players at the World Cup, but they are the top two teams in England right now. Liverpool will have around the same amount of personnel travelling to the tournament as the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.

Every confirmed Liverpool player who is heading to the World Cup
Some Liverpool players have already had their place at the tournament confirmed.
Country | Player | Description |
|---|---|---|
France | Ibrahima Konate | France will be looking to go one better after finishing runners-up in the last World Cup. |
Japan | Wataru Endo | Endo's Japan could be a dark horse at the tournament. |
Which countries are most heavily represented?
The Netherlands could have up to four Liverpool players in its roster. Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, and Jeremie Frimpong will all be expected to be a part of Ronald Koeman's side.
France could have had two players; Ibrahima Konate has been called up, but Hugo Ekitike suffered a season-ending injury, which will also mean he will miss the tournament. Konate made a substitute appearance in the 2022 final as Les Bleus lost to Argentina.
Alisson could be playing against Robertson in the group stage. Liverpool's Dutch contingent will face Endo's Japan. Isak's Sweden will also face the Netherlands. More Liverpool players will likely face each other during the knockout stages.
The biggest stars to watch at the World Cup
Salah is Liverpool and Egypt's biggest star; he is also a hero for much of the Arab world. This is why he has been so heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League. He will be leaving the Reds at the end of the season, and his destination has not yet been announced.
The Reds have many Dutch players, but Van Dijk is the biggest star of them all. The Netherlands are perennial underachievers at the tournament.
Isak, Wirtz, and Mac Allister may not have had the best of campaigns, but they remain key figures for their countries. Sweden is not expected to go far, having only qualified through the playoffs. However, Wirtz and Mac Allister could be seen at the latter stages of the tournament with their nations. Mac Allister is a huge star, having won the tournament in 2022.
Young players who could break out in 2026
There may have to be injuries or suspensions, but Jaros, who is only 24, could get his chance in goal for the Czech Republic.
It feels like Wirtz has been around for ages, as he was a star with Bayer Leverkusen before joining the Reds. However, he is still just 23 and could break onto the scene at the tournament.
Players who may miss out on World Cup selection
Ektikie has already been ruled out through injury, but more Liverpool players could be in the same boat. Alisson (hamstring), Isak (muscle problems), and Endo (ankle) all have injury scares ahead of the tournament. Frimpong and Wirtz have suffered from niggles, but will still be expected to be selected.
When will the 2026 World Cup squads be confirmed
France and Japan have already announced their rosters, and more will be confirmed in the coming days. The deadline for nations to submit their squad to FIFA is June 1, but all will likely be announced before then.
