Liverpool had just won the Premier League and lured some big signings to Anfield over the summer. It looked like the Reds were building an unbeatable team. However, many of their new players flopped, and Arne Slot's side were not able to mount a title challenge. They did still manage to finish fifth and qualify for the Champions League.
Every Liverpool signing of the 2025 summer ranked from worst to best one year later
8. Alexander Isak
Alexander Isak forced his move to Liverpool from Newcastle United by going on strike. This meant that he had no pre-season, so he was unable to hit the ground running at Anfield. A broken fibula then meant that he missed much of the campaign.
He scored just three Premier League goals in the 14 games he played in the division this season. Whilst he did not score in seven Champions League games for the Reds. This was a far cry from the 27 goals he scored last season in 42 matches. This led to Liverpool paying a British record of ÂŁ125 million for his services.
7. Florian Wirtz
Florian Wirtz looked like a coup for Liverpool when they signed him from Bayer Leverkusen. Wirtz is only 23 and was a key part of Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen that won the Bundesliga in the 2023/24 season. However, he has been unable to replicate his form in Germany in the Premier League.
Wirtz scored just seven goals with 10 assists in 49 Premier League games this season. There was hope amongst some supporters that Alonso could be the next Liverpool manager. He could have got the best out of Wirtz again, but Alonso is now in charge of Chelsea.
6. Giovanni Leoni
Giovanni Leoni was signed from Parma, but played just one game for the Reds. In their EFL Cup match with Southampton, he suffered a cruciate ligament tear and missed the rest of the season. At just 19 years old, he could still be a top defender for the Reds in the future.
5. Freddie woodman
Liverpool had multiple injury problems this season. There was a time when Alisson and Giorgi Mamardashvili were both injured. Therefore, Freddie Woodman filled in for three Premier League games. This included the goalkeeper coming on as a substitute in the Merseyside derby. He handled the pressure of the derby well, as they defeated Everton 1-0 thanks to a goal from Virgil van Dijk.
4. Jeremie Frimpong
Another player who was signed from Leverkusen but failed to live up to expectations. A hamstring injury meant that he played just 21 Premier League games this season. However, he is a good option for Slot as he can play right wing as well as right back.
3. Milos Kerkez
Liverpool signed Milos Kerkez ahead of Fulham's Antonee Robinson. However, the Reds may be regretting making that decision. Kerkez has not been able to replicate his form from AFC Bournemouth at Anfield.
Kerkez scored twice and made six assists in 38 games for the Cherries last season. However, in this campaign, he scored twice but provided just one assist in 34 matches for the Reds.
2. Giorgi Mamardashvili
Giorgi Mamardashvili has been a solid backup keeper for the Reds. He filled in well when Alisson was injured. At 6 ft 6, he is a dominating presence. If Alisson departs for Juventus this summer, the Reds have a ready-made replacement for him.
1. Hugo Ekitike
Hugo Ekitike was expected to be Isak's understudy at Liverpool. However, he went on to be their main goal threat. He scored 17 goals in 45 games this season. However, an Achilles tendon rupture ended his campaign.
