Liverpool have formally opened club-to-club negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain for winger Bradley Barcola, identifying the 23-year-old French international as their primary target to reinforce the attack this summer.

While the Reds have indicated an initial bid value in excess of €100m (£85.5m), significant work remains before an agreement can be reached. PSG’s valuation sits well above Liverpool’s opening benchmark, meaning a deal is not deemed imminent as talks over fee structure and payment terms continue.

Taking to X, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano broke the latest update on the saga:

"Understand official club to club talks between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain for Bradley Barcola have started. #LFC indicated initial bid value over €100m, still far from PSG requests — but talks are on."

He subsequently added:

"Barcola wants Liverpool, as exclusively revealed since May."

Having monitored the winger throughout the spring and early summer, Liverpool have now formally stepped up their interest by engaging directly with PSG officials.

While an official formal offer has yet to be formally accepted by the Ligue 1 champions, the initiation of direct contact represents a vital breakthrough in a pursuit that had previously been conducted at arm's length.

"My feeling: this is not going to be something imminent, so I don't expect that he will go on Monday or on Tuesday. There is still work to do between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain, so there is a possibility this is going to be a saga in this summer transfer window.

"But this depends on Liverpool on how much they want to spend. Paris Saint-Germain are open to negotiating, but their conditions are expensive. So negotiations are going to take place for Barcola, but don't forget that the player wants to go to Liverpool, and that Liverpool consider Barcola their top, top target."

The aggressive push for Barcola comes during a pivotal transfer window for Liverpool, as head coach Andoni Iraola continues to reshape the squad he inherited from former manager Arne Slot.
