It has been a mixed pre-season campaign for Liverpool so far, they will be looking to conclude their preparations ahead of the new 2026/27 campaign with a win, or perhaps even two.
The Reds will face Como twice on Sunday 16th August, both games being played at Anfield, including a behind-closed-doors game at 11:30am. This first match is surely designed to give fringe players and youngsters some valuable minutes.
Our focus though is on the second game of the day, considering over 60,000 Reds will be in attendance to see it, hoping to have a win to celebrate.

Liverpool vs Como match preview
There is now just a week to go until until the serious business begins for both teams, so who will look in better shape on Merseyside? Pre-season started brightly for Andoni Iraola as Liverpool manager, enjoying victories over Sunderland in Nashville and then Wrexham in New York City.
However, there have been more concerning signs since then. In the final match of the Reds' U.S. tour, despite leading 2-0 with an hour player in Chicago, a late collapse saw them beaten 4-2 by Leeds United.
Then, returning to Anfield for a clash with Monaco last Sunday, this appears to have started something of a trend. Again, Iraola's side led 2-0, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz the scorers, but were beaten 3-2, with les Monégasques' winner coming in injury time.
Pre-season results ultimately do not matter, but the same defensive fragility that plagued Liverpool last season appears not to have been eradicated.
Thus, with just a week to go until Iraola's team commence their Premier League campaign against Newcastle, he'll be looking for a more complete performance.
As for Como, this will be their first-ever meeting with Liverpool, but they are starting to get used to rubbing shoulders with Europe's elite.

More broadly, Como are a club on the rise. 2024/25 was their first season back in Serie A for over two decades, but the Lariani finished tenth, before coming fourth last season, pipping Juventus and A.C. Milan to Champions League qualification on a dramatic final day. Thus, the Voltiani's first-ever taste of UEFA competition will be in the top-tier competition, starting next month.
Led by Cesc Fàbregas, Como's first three Serie A matches are all on the road, travelling to Udinese next Saturday, before visits to Napoli and then Genoa. So, can the Italian side claim a famous friendly win on Merseyside, or will Liverpool possess too much quality?

Andoni Iraola will surely want to deploy as strong a starting lineup as possible. Alexis Mac Allister returned to AXA Training Centre this week, the last World Cup representative to do so, thereby hoping for a cameo off the bench. Fellow World Cup finalist Víctor Muñoz enjoyed just that against Monaco, his first outing in a red shirt, so could the Spaniard start this time?
Elsewhere, Kopites could finally get a first glimpse of Jérémy Jacquet. Following shoulder surgery in February, Iraola as been ultra-cautious with the Frenchman, but has suggested he will feature here. Fellow new recruit and defender Ronald Araújo is also set for his Anfield bow.
Joe Gomez is injured, while Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley, Stefan Bajčetić and Hugo Ektikié are sidelined long-term. Lastly, it'll be interesting to see if Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo play any part, amid transfer speculation.

Como's star man is Nico Paz, who has recently made his move from Real Madrid permanent for €60 million. He is yet to feature in pre-season, having been at the World Cup, but that could change on Merseyside. Elsewhere, the Biancoblù have signed Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea, who came off the bench at Arsenal on Wednesday, while journeyman Álvaro Morata is set to lead the line.
