There is very little football fans enjoy more than seeing a young player come through the ranks and break into the first team. Well, those at Liverpool believe Kieran Morrison is more than capable of doing just that, albeit he'll have to wait to do so.

That's because, on Thursday afternoon, it was confirmed that the 19 year old has joined Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long loan. Morrison had featured regularly for Andoni Iraola's team during pre-season. He started the games against Sunderland and Leeds during the U.S. tour, scoring in the former, as well as seeing the second 45 of the win over Wrexham in New York City in between.

However, once Liverpool's senior World Cup players returned, it was to be expected that his importance would diminish, not featuring in either Anfield friendly. Thus, the 19 year old will spend the season out on loan, searching for valuable first team minutes, so what should fans make of today's news?

Who is Liverpool youngster Kieran Morrison?

Morrison joined Liverpool's ranks as a 13 year old, having previously been on the books of Manchester United. He has scored an impressive 35 goals in 96 outings for the Reds' under-18s and 21s, including netting against RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, Stuttgart and MŠK Žilina in the UEFA Youth League.

He appeared twice for Arne Slot at senior level last season, starting the Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace, before a brief cameo off the bench against Wolves in the FA Cup. This clearly caught the attention of Michael O'Neill.

The teenager has featured for Northern Ireland at all the underage groups, handed his senior international debut for the Green and White Army against Guinea in June. He was then an unused substitute against France at Stade Pierre-Mauroy four nights later.

Thus, having featured prominently in pre-season, he is clearly in Iraola's plans for the future, but it has been decided that it would be best for his development to spend the season elsewhere.

What Kieran Morrison should expect at Sheffield Wednesday

Morrison joins Sheffield Wednesday as an EFL League One club. The Owls finished rock-bottom of the Championship last season with zero points, albeit this was celebrated on the final day. They were deduced 18 points for entering administration and "failing to meet payment obligations", but victory over West Bromwich Albion at the last, only their second win all season, took their tally back to zero.

Still led by Henrik Pedersen, Sheffield Wednesday are targeting promotion. The Owls won their season opener against Leyton Orient and, while Morrison has not joined in time to face Bradford at Hillsborough on Thursday night, could debut against Wolves in the Carabao Cup next Tuesday.
