LaLiga’s Getafe have reportedly started talks to sign this summer after another pre-season without any minutes for Liverpool.
The 21-year-old reported early for pre-season and rejoined full training while the team was in the United States, but has since been a notable absentee from the squad.
Not so long ago, Stefan Bajčetić was going to be the future of Liverpool's midfield. He broke into the first team as a teenager, netting against Aston Villa on Boxing Day 2022, the third-youngest scorer in the Reds' history, behind only Michael Owen and Raheem Sterling.
However, since then, a major injury issue has completely derailed his development, and now he is set to depart Merseyside.
As reported by Matteo Moretto of Marca, Getafe are "working" on a deal to sign Bajčetić. Fabrizio Romano later added that the Madrid-based side "have opened talks" with Liverpool over this move. It is not yet clear if this would be a permanent on loan transfer but, considering that the Azulones almost never pay a noteworthy fee for any player, the latter seems more likely.
Last season, Getafe found themselves in a relegation battle by Christmas, so brought in five key players, all on loan, in the January window Well, they performed so well that the Azulones climbed up the table and eventually finished seventh, so will be in the UEFA Conference League, assuming they overcome Partizan Belgrade in the play-off round.
Nevertheless, having lost 13 players as free agents or because their loan expired, José Bordalás has to completely rebuild his squad, a task made all the more challenging by European football. Thus, if Bajčetić did end up at the Coliseum, he could become a key figure from day one.
What happened to Stefan Bajčetić at Liverpool?

As already noted, Bajčetić really burst onto the scene in 2022/23, appearing 19 times in all competitions, of which 11 were in the Premier League. However, since then, he has appeared only twice for Liverpool, the most-recent of which came against Tottenham in May 2024, an enormous 834 days ago.
He was then loaned out to RB Salzburg, which appeared to be the ideal fit, given that they had just appointed Pep Lijnders. However, after only starting eight times, he was recalled and sent out on loan to Las Palmas. Unlike in Austria, he was a key figure for los Amarillos, appearing in 14 La Liga games out of 15, of which 12 were starts, before suffering a serious hamstring injury against Sevilla.
Well, that game at Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán on 13 May 2025 is the last time the 21 year old has played a competitive match. This has snatched away a key period of Bajčetić's development so, back fit again, he just needs to be playing games. Thus, having been born and raised in Spain, a loan move back to La Liga seems logical, with Liverpool not yet ready to give up on his talent.
