Christmas has come and gone and LFC gifted their fans a home win over bottom club Wolves, with one final win at Anfield to end a rather successful 2025. Focus turns to Leeds on New Years Day as the promoted side also travel to Anfield.

Entering the new year there are three main stories that are doing the rounds in the LFC sphere…

Florian Wirtz Opens his Liverpool Account

In Saturday’s win, the German maestro scored his first LFC goal and over the course of the last 5 games has started to look as if he is warming up to the English game.

It was wonderful skill from Hugo Ekitike which opened up the Wolves defence, with the French striker driving at the back line before he slotted a pass through to the on-rushing Wirtz, who poked the ball past the flailing arms of Jose Sa.

It feels as if it will be a defining moment for the attacker as he looks to cement his place as one of the Premier League’s top talents.

A goal and an assist in his last two matches can only help him push forward and help his team regain the lost points they threw away with their early season rut.

Will Liverpool Shock Rivals with a Late Semenyo Swoop?

It has been largely reported that Man City look set to make their move for the Ghanaian winger who is said to prefer a move to the Etihad.

However, like many times before, Liverpool love to leave it late and hijack rivals’ plans. Semenyo wants to resolve his future as soon as humanly possible with many outlets suggesting the 1st of the new year will be pivotal in the race for the star.

Paul Joyce and Paul Hirst have reported that “Liverpool remain interested in Semenyo”. They have also stated that if the deal between Man City and Bournemouth is not finalized by the end of January 1st, Liverpool may pounce, with this potentially signaling tumultuous negotiations.

The Bournemouth man has been the breakout star of the season, building on his already established reputation as a star Premier League Player.

After a slow start from the LFC attack, it was reported earlier in the season that Liverpool may look to Semenyo in January, and this would be a huge coup for Slot and his team, but with Man City such clear favourites I wouldn’t bet on any shocks in this transfer.

LFC Willing to Pay for Early Guehi Arrival?

After a late change in plans, Marc Guehi did not link up with Liverpool in the Summer window and it felt as if Palace had let both LFC and Guehi down with the late call.

Liverpool's interest in the Centre-back has not faltered and now, Sky Sports are reporting that “Crystal Palace believe Liverpool are the sole club aiming to sign Guehi for a fee in January”.

In what was one of the only failed moves in the summer window, Liverpool have not moved on from the England international. Guehi has continued to show his class for Palace so far this season and has seemingly added new suitors to the race to sign him.

As many of you may know, when the new year begins, players out of contact in that year’s summer will be allowed to negotiate, and potentially agree, contracts with teams from outside the nation they currently play in.

Sky Sports also mention that many of his suitors are from abroad, so will be able to directly negotiate with Guehi and lure him away from England, the reason for Liverpool’s willingness to pay for the Centre half.

The Palace captain will be looking forward to the 2026 World Cup, in which he will be looking to consolidate his place in Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI.

He may take into account what club will be best for him to do that, at Palace he is a guaranteed starter every week, a captain and legend.

On the other hand, his forecasted move to Anfield could see him challenge for a Champions League, play at the highest level of Premier League football and play alongside one of the game’s greatest ever Centre-backs in Virgil van Dijk.
