Liverpool announce their October Player of the Month as more injury updates follow
It’s been a thrilling start of the season for Liverpool as the Reds find themselves top of both the Premier League and Champions League.
Arne Slot’s men have dropped points just twice this season after drawing to Arsenal at the Emirates and losing to a well-performing Nottingham Forest at home. Liverpool have won all four of the four Champions League games and are the only team to do so.
With this in mind, let’s take a look at some of the biggest headlines coming from Anfield this past week.
Liverpool thrash Leverkusen 4-0 at Anfield
What an evening it was for the Reds on Tuesday night as Liverpool put four past Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.
It wasn’t quite the return to Anfield that Leverkusen manager and former red Xabi Alonso imagined as Luis Diaz scored a hat-trick in front of The Kop.
Cody Gakpo scored the other goal with Mohamed Salah providing two assists.
The win pushed Liverpool to the top of the Champions League and maintained their perfect record thus far in the competition.
They return to Anfield for their next fixture which is a crunch match against Real Madrid on the 27th of November.
Mohamed Salah Wins Liverpool’s Player of the Month for October
Mohamed Salah has been voted Player of the Month for the second time in the 2024/25 season. He provided three goals and three assists in six games in October and played a vital role in all of Liverpool’s matches.
Some of the Egyptian’s most important moments came when he scored an equalizer at the Emirates against Arsenal, and the goal and assist he delivered against Chelsea in the Premier League.
Ibrahima Konate came second in the running, whilst the September Player of the Month Ryan Gravenberch, finished third.
Salah has continued his fine form into November as he scored the winner against Brighton and assisted twice in the 4-0 win against Leverkusen while also netting in the win over Villa.
Injury Updates
The biggest update that we received this week was concerning Diogo Jota, who has been out of action after being forced off in the 30th minute against Chelsea three weeks ago.
Whilst speaking in a press conference earlier this week, Slot said that they expect Jota to return soon after the international break.
Another player who is expected to be available again after the international break is new signing Federico Chiesa. The Italian has had an ongoing fitness issue which has not seen him have a proper run in the team as of late.
Alisson and Harvey Elliott continue to be unavailable for selection with no further updates as of yet on their conditions.
