Liverpool get a frustrating update on Alisson Becker's injury

Arne Slot could be without his star goalkeeper for quite awhile following yet another soft tissue injury for the Brazilian.

Tuesday's defeat in Istanbul has seemingly cost Liverpool more than just three points in their pursuit of Champions League success this season.

One of the few standout performers for Arne Slot on a frustrating night, Alisson Becker injured his hamstring once again after stopping all-world forward Victor Osimhen in a one-on-one situation.

Now, it looks like the Reds could be without their star keeper for the foreseeable future as the result of another muscle issue for the 32-year old.

Bleak outlook

Upon making the save on Osimhen, a chance that was gifted by another Ibrahima Konate stray pass, the Brazilian stayed down and called for the trainer.

He was immediately replaced by the towering Giorgi Mamardashvili and the prognostications since have only gotten worse for the player and club.

Slot all but ruled him out for Saturday's meeting against Chelsea. "So, yeah, normally he will not be able to play Saturday. That's 99.9 percent. I've already said 100 percent, but let's make it 99.9, but I think it's 100."

The club have the player set for an MRI on Thursday, but if reports from Sky Sports on Wednesday are accurate, Alison will be out of action until after the next international break.

This must be deja vu for Slot and his staff as our No. 1 keeper missed 31 matches last season for both club and coutnry. This injury is continuing a worrying trend over the last few seasons.

Giorgi time to Shine

Much like Caoimhin Kelleher a season ago, the Georgian finds himself with an opportunity to rise to the occasion and cement his status at the club.

Liverpool were able to win the Premier League last season very much because Kelleher weathered the two month absence of Alisson in goal with top-notch displays.

Mamardashvili has seen his early chances at the club limited, but he has been solid when given the chance to play for the Reds. Now, he could have some huge matches to be part over the next month or so.

Chelsea, Manchester United, Eintracht Frankfurt, Brentford and Crystal Palace are the immediate concerns with a UCL showdown with Real Madrid soon thereafter in early November.

If the MRI scan shows an even more troublesome hamstring issue, Alisson could miss out on some of the biggest fixtures of our season, thus putting the onus on Mamardashvili to fill-in with only his best performances.

It looks like another medium to long-term muscle injury for Alisson Becker, so Liverpool will have to put their faith in the future of the position for them. The future is now it would appear.
