Liverpool's underwhelming start to the season might just have become pretty good. On Sunday, in a game that will not live long in the memory, to put it politely, the Reds beat Bournemouth 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium. The only goal of the afternoon came just before the hour mark.
Cody Gakpo's ball across the box found Florian Wirtz who, inadvertently, flicked the ball up in the air for Alexander Isak to lash into Đorđe Petrović's bottom corner.

This is the Swedish international's fourth Premier League goal of the season already, on target when Nottingham Forest visiting Anfield, as well as bagging a brace at Portman Road against Ipswich. Thus, Isak has already surpassed his league goal tally from the entirety of last season, five games into this campaign.
Andoni Iraola is still yet to taste defeat as Liverpool boss, drawing three of five Premier League matches, albeit this victory by the South Coast will improve all Kopites' mood ahead of an elongated international break. However, is this victory even more impressive than fans may first realise?
This was, remarkably, the first time Bournemouth have been beaten at home since 3 January, which is a whopping 260 days ago. Back then, Iraola's side were narrowly defeated 3-2 by Arsenal, a game that very much could have gone either-way. Since then, the Cherries had played 11 matches on their own turf, notably beating both Tottenham and Liverpool themselves later on in January.
In fact, prior to Sunday, Bournemouth's only defeat in any competition since 3 January came at the Etihad on the opening day of this season, with Manchester City scoring a stoppage time winner. Thus, despite the fact this was a forgettable, low-quality affair, not many visiting teams will leave Dorset with all three points this season, making them even more precious for Liverpool.
This victory propels Liverpool up to sixth in the table, one of only five clubs yet to taste defeat in the Premier League, alongside leaders Manchester City, Brentford, Leeds United and Everton. So, what next for the Reds?
Well, Iraola's team will not be in action for another three weeks, with the September and October international windows having been squashed together. When the Reds do, return they will do so with a bang, hosting Man City on 11 October.
After that, their next three league fixtures are all against teams currently above Liverpool, namely Brentford, Brighton and champions Arsenal, as well as taking on LASK and Fenerbahçe in the Champions League and Chelsea in the EFL Cup.
