Well, are we all breathing alright? The Premier League is officially back in full swing and Liverpool did not disappoint in their first match as freshly crowned champions.

Arne Slot's side came out the victors 4-2 in a wide-open affair as goals from Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah were enough to secure three points on an emotional evening.

Fair play to Bournemouth who did not wilt and came to play on the front foot, but simply did not have the depth of talent as their opponents do.

Let's see how the Liverpool players rated in the exciting Premier League opening win.

Mohamed Salah

Alisson Becker - 6.5/10 - It was not his best performance ever, but he made smart actions when called upon and almost got another assist after finding Salah with another trademark long kick.

Jeremie Frimpong - 7/10 - The Dutchman was not electric on this night, but he was rock solid and several times used his short area burst to clear a free ball or to close down the Cherries attack.

Ibrahima Konate - 5/10 - Not the best of nights for Ibou. He was caught out of position several times and looked lethargic. Should have done better to close down Semenyo on his second goal.

Virgil van Dijk - 8/10 -A much improved match from the Community Shield. VVD looked strong and composed once again. Cleaned up a lot of Konate's mess, but made it look effortless.

Milos Kerkez- 6/10 - The Hungarian is going to be a hit, but on this night, he was very average. Did not do a lot wrong, although his yellow card could have been avoided, but he also did not overly harm Liverpool. Nerves for his home debut perhaps?

Alexis Mac Allister - 7/10 - Snapped into so many 50-50 challenges and broke up play on several occasions. Bagged an assist on the opener and had a missile long range effort parried away.

Dominik Szoboszlai - 6.5/10 - He got forward often and linked up with the forwards well enough throughout, but couldn't get anything to convert from a pass or shot. Was a little lackadaisical with the flick that sprung the Bournemouth counter for their second goal.

Florian Wirtz - 6.5/10 - He showed a competitiveness and aggression in his pressing that was very good to see. Could not unlock things when the on the ball, but was always looking to move things forward.

Mohamed Salah - 7.5/10 - He was dangerous and created a lot of half-chances and clear cut looks for himself and others. Was much more lively here and took his goal well. Opening day goals are what he does.

Hugo Ekitike - 8/10 - His movement was very impressive and he did not shy away from the moment. Showed great composure to comfortably net his debut goal. Has shown great chemistry with others in his early days. Strong start to his season.

Cody Gakpo - 7/10 - Took his goal very well and showed a scorers instinct to hold his shot not once but twice before firing. Outside of the goal, was slightly involved, but not on a consistent basis.

SUBS

Curtis Jones - 6/10 - He was fine after coming on but did not do a great job of bringing control to the midfield.

Wataru Endo - 6/10 - "The Closer" as he was dubbed last season came on in a similar role this time and brought a little toughness but wasn't overly influential.

Andy Robertson - 6.5/10 - Looked a little slow on the break trying to stay in front of Semenyo for his first goal. Otherwise, brought some stability to the defense.

Joe Gomez - 6/10 - Good to see him back on the pitch after his injury problems.

Federico Chiesa - 7/10 - The hero on the night. A technically brilliant finish in a high-pressure moment shows the ability he has. A huge goal for the club but also for him.
