Friday saw the release of the full 2026/27 Premier League fixture list for all clubs, and Liverpool should be very happy with their early draw for the coming season.

Following a miserable time of it during the just ended league campaign, the Reds will be eager to hit the ground running in the Andoni Iraola era, and Friday's schedule release offered a lifeline to do just that from day one.

Andoni Iraola gets a favorable start

The Spanish coach will be implementing a whole new tactical setup this summer while also signing several new players in a addition to seeing some Liverpool stalwarts likely depart.

That makes a softer opening stretch of matches to begin the new league season an ideal setup for the Reds.

Liverpool do begin their season away to Newcastle United on the 23rd of August, but it is a fixture they have come out on top in during recent trips. While tricky, a fit and hungry Liverpool side should be in with a shout on Matchday 1 at St. James Park.

That is followed by matches with Nottingham Forest (h), Ipswich Town (a), Fulham (h) and Bournemouth (a).

As far as five opening matches go to a campaign, avoiding Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United is a good place to be. Iraola can see what he is truly working with while racking up points in the bank before the heavy fixtures begin.

Liverpool early 2026/27 Premier League fixtures

Newcastle United (a) - 23/08/2026

Nottingham Forest (h) - 29/08/2026

Ipswich Town (a) - 05/09/2026

Fulham (h) - 12/09/2026

Bournemouth (a) - 19/09/2026

While Forest gave Liverpool some troubles last season, a rejuvenated Reds side operating on the front-foot under Iraola should be favored comfortably in that one.

Ipswich Town, newly promoted back into the Premier League, should offer little resistance if the likes of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai and others are locked in. Fulham could offer some slight challenges, but under new management, we do not yet know what they will look like going forward.

Lastly, Iraola gets a match against his old club, Bournemouth. The Cherries, who will be competing in Europe for the coming season, have some talented players, if they can retain them this summer.

That said, Iraola will have Liverpool fired up for that meeting to make sure the new established order is laid down from the beginning.

Liverpool to lay down an early gauntlet?

This opening five fixture window offers the Reds a chance to really get their feet settled in the new season while racking up points to stave off future dry spells.

Winning at least four of the opening five matches is on the table if things go right, players come into the campaign ready to go and Iraola can insert his system without much hassle.

Getting off to a strong start to the new Premier League season would also go a long way towards reestablishing the Reds as viable contenders once again, and could prove the 2025/26 outcome was a mere blip, and not the the new norm.

Any new manager or coach at a big club wants to hit the ground running. They want to avoid questions about their hiring and show they can rise to the occasion.

Liverpool's opening 2026/27 Premier League fixtures offer Andoni Iraola that exact chance. With a full summer and transfer window to prepare, the Reds will be eager to kick things off in late August.
