Liverpool Football Club are reportedly getting close to completing another summer exit as one of their brightest young midfielders is nearing a switch to Ligue 1 in France.
Liverpool's crowded and very talented midfield means that Tyler Morton has found it very difficult to force his way into Arne Slot's plans at Anfield. Following another season at the youth level in 2024/25, Morton and the club are prepared to officially part ways.
Let's take a look at the soon-to-be-completed transfer for one of the Reds' brightest young talents.
The Deal
French outfit Lyon have made signing Morton one of their top priorities this summer and they and Liverpool have come to an agreement on a deal for around €17 million.
He is expected to sign a five-year contract with his new club while Richard Hughes has worked in reported 20% sell-on clause should Morton move elsewhere.
Per Sky Sports, his medical has been completed and the final steps are in process to complete the transfer.
It's a solid influx of funds for Liverpool for a player that has only made 14 appearances for the first team in his career. He has been a staple in their U21 and U18 teams making a combined 65 appearances at the Academy levels.

He significantly rose his stock during the 2023/24 season where he played 41 times for Hull City in the EFL Championship while also scoring 3 goals with 5 assists.
His current market value is around €7m, so this is a great piece of business from a Liverpool perspective as it brings in more than double his value at a time where they have been spending heavy and swiftly all summer transfer window.
Lyon gest a 22-year old midfielder to integrate into their newlook side, and he could absolutely turn into something brighter given the right circumstances at his new club.
A fine player, but not truly Liverpool level
I have been a big fan of Morton over the years and felt he could really become a proper player if given enough chances.
Unfortunately, he never got those at Anfield as it was clear he was limited in what he could offer the side. He's a great game-manager at the base of midfield, but he lacks the dynamic element that top teams want from their youngsters these days.

He is very much like Wataru Endo in that he will get stuck into a tackle and can break up most counterattacks, but he does not have the same leadership qualities yet nor can he do more than move the ball along in possession.
He will surely turn into a rock solid holding midfielder, but he would never have gotten that opportunity in the Liverpool first team. There is just too much starpower and other starlets.
The Reds pocket some nice cash, Lyon gets a promising player that could improve and Morton himself gets to play for one of the biggest teams in France.
