Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Fulham midfielder Josh King as they consider a move for the highly rated teenager, sources have told Football Insider.
The 19-year-old has emerged as one of Fulham’s brightest prospects after making significant strides in the first team, attracting attention from several of Europe’s leading clubs.
A potential transfer is being considered, although Fulham are unlikely to welcome interest in a player who has become increasingly important to their plans.
Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund are also understood to be interested, while Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City are monitoring his situation.
Josh King is making his mark at Fulham
The Fulham midfielder’s progress has been particularly striking given his age and the responsibility he has been handed in the Premier League.
He featured regularly under Marco Silva last season, playing 1,310 minutes in the competition, predominantly as an attacking midfielder. His ability to pick out forward passes and link play in advanced areas offered an early indication of his potential.
This season, however, the teenager has added goals to his game. He has found the net twice in six Premier League appearances under Alvaro Arbeloa, already exceeding his total from the previous campaign.
Those contributions have been valuable for a Fulham side enduring a difficult start. Two draws and four defeats have left them bottom of the table, with only six goals scored. The youngster’s finishing has therefore accounted for 33 per cent of their league goals so far.
Not only has the England U21 player started every one of Fulham’s Premier League games to start off the campaign, but it is not often that a teenager is trusted with a role in the spine of a formation.
To be handed that level of responsibility and reliance within a tactical setup speaks to the confidence the Fulham manager has in the 19-year-old to dictate play through attacking choices in the final third.
He has also demonstrated his ability to compete against top-level opposition, featuring against Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.
Against Liverpool, the Englishman attempted four shots and created one chance, showing an eagerness to take responsibility in the attacking third.
Why Liverpool could be interested in Josh King
The 19-year-old's suitability for Liverpool is an important part of the appeal, particularly given the role played by the attacking midfielder in Andoni Iraola’s system.
At Fulham, he has operated behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1 formation, using his movement to find space between defensive lines.
He is comfortable drifting towards the flanks, where he can release runners with passes that break through opposition defensive structures.
His close control and ability to protect possession also allow him to operate in congested midfield areas, while his physical attributes have helped him adapt to the demands of Premier League football.
Liverpool already have big-money Florian Wirtz as their primary option in the number 10 role. Dominik Szoboszlai provides another attacking threat, although he has increasingly been deployed deeper alongside Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister.
Recruiting Fulham’s starlet would give Iraola an additional specialist option behind the striker, offering greater flexibility when rotating his attacking players across a demanding schedule.
For King, a move to Anfield would represent a significant step up, but the opportunity to develop alongside established players could prove attractive.
The youngster could also offer something Liverpool have yet to consistently see from their German midfielder in the Premier League: a greater willingness to test goalkeepers.
Both attacking midfielders have registered 14 shots in the competition this season, despite playing for sides with vastly different levels of possession.
While the former Leverkusen is still adapting to the demands of English football, Fulham's teenager has shown a real appetite for shooting, looking to make things happen whenever space opens up around the penalty area.
That directness could give Iraola another dimension in the final third, particularly against opponents who sit deep and restrict Liverpool’s passing options.
Liverpool’s interest in Josh King could develop into a serious transfer pursuit if the Fulham teenager maintains his impressive form throughout the season.
However, with Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United also monitoring his progress, Liverpool may face a significant battle to secure his signature.
A potential summer move in 2027 would give the Reds an opportunity to strengthen their attacking midfield while investing in one of the Premier League’s most promising young talents.
