The Netherlands, captained by van Dijk, alongside Florian Wirtz’s Germany, were both eliminated in the round of 32 over three weeks ago.

Brazil’s no.1 Alisson Becker went one further with his nation, before they were knocked out by Norway in the round of 16.

While Liverpool are due to fly out to the US imminently ahead of their pre-season tour, the players aforementioned will enjoy an extended period of rest, joining the squad later on.

Van Dijk makes Wimbledon appearance

Before Liverpool's captain returned to the UK, he was pictured at an event in Montenegro, alongside teammate Joe Gomez and musician Stormzy.

A day later, the Dutchman donned an all-white suit as he made an appearance at Wimbledon for the men’s semi-final, where he also met tennis royalty in Roger Federer.

The stylish Hugo Ekitike was also seen at the All England Club, as Liverpool’s star striker continues his recovery from an Achilles injury.

Recently, van Dijk revealed on social media that he was holidaying in the south of France, where he linked up with compatriot Nathan Ake and Belgium’s Kevin de Bruyne.

He also crossed paths with another legendary British musician in Elton John, as the two shared a selfie on Instagram.

Given that van Dijk and the Netherlands were knocked out by Morocco on June 30, Liverpool’s skipper is expected to return to training on July 21.

Wirtz among the stars in Beverly Hills

Liverpool’s playmaker wound up in sultry southern California during the offseason, exploring what the city of angels had to offer in LA.

Wirtz shared an array of photos on social media, including the iconic Hollywood sign, as well as some popular food spots.

The German was joined by Jonathan Tah, a former teammate during their time at Bayer Leverkusen.

Although Wirtz has not been included in Liverpool’s initial 31-man squad for their pre-season tour, he is also due back on July 21, given that Germany exited the World Cup in the round of 32.

More late arrivals expected for the Reds

Dutch duo Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo are likely to join their captain, as they look to link up with the Liverpool squad this week, with no injuries reported.

Record signing Alexander Isak looked in fine form for Sweden throughout the World Cup, and is likely aiming for a return to training on July 22.

Alisson, who has just completed eight years with the Merseyside outfit, is not expected to join the squad until later next week, aligning with Brazil’s exit roughly three weeks ago.

Further frustration awaits head coach Andoni Iraola, who will be without key midfielder Alexis Mac Allister until mid-August at the earliest.

Iraola will also have to wait to assess new signing Victor Munoz, who is enjoying his World Cup triumph with Spain.

Liverpool’s season opener is a Premier League clash against Newcastle United, at St James’ Park on August 23.
